Long Record Mortgage Tops County History in Grafton
A 133 page mortgage securing 63 million dollars from the Baltimore and Ohio railroad to Central Trust Company of New York and James Wallace as trustee is noted as the longest document on record in the county. The piece outlines floods and pumping failures in Grafton, critiques on the city’s pumping station construction, and a civic quarrel over engineering choices. A large audience later enjoyed Professor Claude E. Vincent’s concert at Brinkman’s Opera House with performances by Davis, Mary Leeds, Irene Vincent, and others, praised as the finest yet by the troupe. An Odd Fellows rally for Marion, Monongalia and Taylor counties closed the report.
