A two day feature presentation headlines the Opera House program with a Sunday show on the eve of Monday. The big double bill includes Feature No 1 as the leading attraction, followed by an additional attraction on Tuesday.
Chairman O Jay Fleming announced at 10 45 am that the county’s 6th War Loan surpassed 450000 with big bonds leading the surge while small E F G series buyers lag. Small bonds show 4656 25 2978 50 and 85800 in G series plus 300000 in 1 year 7 8 per cent certificates and other bonds. Fleming urged individuals to buy an extra bond before the December 16 close and noted state chairman A C Spurr praised Taylor county for leading the state in meeting its quota.
Second Lt. William Frank Shaw 22 husband of Christine Carpenter of Maple Avenue received the Air Medal at a Eighth Air Force bomber station in England. He serves as bombardier aboard a Flying Fortress, one of many heroes lauded as the First Bombardment Division earned a Presidential Unit Citation for attacks on Oscher sleben and Halberstadt in Germany despite heavy fighter opposition. Also noted is Shaw’s Beech Street and Grafton High School background and prior job with Carnegie Illinois Steel.
Charleston reports individual investors have reached 45 percent of a 39 million dollar quota while series E bonds show 28 percent of a 21 million dollar goal. War finance leaders said corporate sales will be reported tomorrow to enable comparison with other state drive efforts toward a 69 million dollar overall quota.
The Music Department of the Woman's Club of Grafton will present its annual concert on Wednesday December 13 at the 1st Baptist Church directed by Mrs Howard Lawson. Soloist Miss Barbara Stewart of Flemington to headline with eight local women forming the chorus. Piano and organ accompaniments by Mrs H K Debendorfer and Mrs P P Warden.
