Andrew W. Mellon, noted financier and former secretary of the treasury, died last night at age 82 after a monthlong illness from uremia and bronchial pneumonia. He passed at the home of his daughter Mrs. David K. E. Bruce in Southampton, New York, with family by his side. Funeral arrangements were being prepared for Pittsburgh, where he had long been a leading figure and philanthropist. He left a vast fortune earned through banking, oil, and aluminum enterprises.
