Local Effects Of High Corn Fertilization Studied By Scientists
Fifteen scientists and agriculture professors from Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia universities toured Taylor and Barbour counties to study fertilization effects on corn. They visited Veterans trainees plots and State College experiment plots on farms including Lee Vorder on Corbin Run and Clyde Satterfield on Wilson's Ridge. The group observed multiple farms and varieties, including a Post farm corn field that may yield over a hundred bushels per shelled acre, and a field of Ohio W17 with fertilizer intense plot. The tour ended at Dillon Baughman’s farm with a new hybrid at 24 000 stalks per acre. Participants included Ralph E. Fike and Roscoe Dodrill among others. LOCAL Page 8
