FAIRBANKS Alaska Aug 18 Eskimos who reported hearing engines along the northern Alaska coast four or five days ago gave the first definite clues in the hunt for the missing Soviet transpolar plane. Natives at Barter Island told Pilot Bob Randall they heard a roar and, finding no boat, concluded it was an airplane. Barter Island lies 300 miles east of Barrow and the spot is 175 miles east of the 148th meridian where the six men planned a 4000 mile hop from Moscow.
