Prison Gun Battle Ends In Officer Wounding
In Ansted jail an 18 year old prisoner fired three times at Police Chief L L Rogers and was killed. Rogers, a Fayette county constable, had jailed Harry Trent when the youth pulled a gun and wounded the officer in the groin. Rogers returned fire, wounding Trent in the abdomen. Trent died en route to a hospital. Trent was arrested on auto theft charges at Montgomery and had a prior prison term for a similar offense.
