Washington reports say the United States sold 200 merchant marine vessels to Henry Ford for 1,706,000 dollars, costing the government about 150,000,000 dollars in the transaction. The ships, built during the war at unit costs around 8000 each, leave Ford the largest private ship owner. The Shipping Board plans early bids to dispose of surplus vessels, with Ford possibly scrapping most ships and retaining a few for trade.
