William Hereford McGinnis, 74, former judge of the West Virginia state supreme court of appeals, died in Beckley after several weeks of illness. Born December 29, 1855, in Raleigh County, he read law with his father and was admitted to the bar in 1881. He served as Raleigh County prosecuting attorney, practiced with John H. Hatcher, was a state senator in 1902, a Democratic national convention delegate in 1920, and joined the supreme court in 1922. After leaving the bench in 1924 he formed the firm McGinnis and McGinnis. Survived by his widow Sallie E. Holroyd and four children.
