In Charleston on August 10, 28 year old Carl Cobb was killed in an early morning quarrel. His father-in-law General Hackney, 67, was jailed on murder charges after State Troopers C A Thompson and M A Murphy say Hackney admitted hitting Cobb with an axe while Cobb threatened him with an ice pick. Hackney claimed he struck to “put him out of business” and the wife, Cobb’s sister, witnessed the attack as her father struck Cobb beside the bed. Neighbor David Fisher reported the scene.

Eastern Air Liner Crashes Power Cable Near Daytona Beach
A 14 passenger Eastern Airlines plane crashed into a newly built power line near Daytona Beach airport, killing four people and injuring others. Captain Stuart Dietz and co-pilot Robert Reed died at the scene or hospital. J F Philpots and W G Marian also killed.
