In South Paris Maine on August 8 Sheriff Mernando F. Francis testified that Paul N. Dwyer first claimed Carroll killed Dr James G Littlefield and his wife. Pineville Kentucky August 8 N P Patterson about 60 a defense attorney in the recent Harlan anti labor conspiracy trial was in critical condition at a hospital from a bullet wound Dr Charles L D Stacy reported Patterson told him he inflicted the wound from his home where Dr Stacy found him the injury was just below his heart

Grafton merchants prepared for a major Dollar Day sale on Thursday with a banner event expected to draw hundreds from the surrounding area into the city. Tuesday's Sentinel will feature extensive Dollar Day advertising and wide distribution within the trade area.
Paul Chambers, 21, son of a Matewan merchant, asked today for bond release pending grand jury action in the death of 19 year old Emma Farley who came from McGarr Kentucky to work in Matewan. Prosecutor Lafe B. Chafin opposed the move and a hearing before Judge Charles W. Ferguson was scheduled for this afternoon.
August 8 report says the Canberra Maru reached Douglas reef and found no trace of the Hawaii clipper, which disappeared July 28 en route from Guam to Manila. A continued search was ordered about 800 miles south of Japan, with a fishing boat aiding. The Canberra Maru, delayed by a typhoon, had been asked by the Japanese navy to search the area. US embassy aid was reportedly denied.

Bacteriological tests were ordered in Detroit to determine if Shiga dysentery caused a baby girl death and six Owosso victims. Infant Mary Ruth Conrad six months old died after a two hour illness during a Detroit visit. Post mortem showed intestinal disease though exact cause awaited confirmation. Three other children in receiving hospital to be examined.

Governor A B Chandler conceded defeat as Alben W Barkley led by 38 159 votes in Kentucky Democratic senatorial primary unofficial returns from 3 398 of 4 313 precincts show Barkley with 227 015 to 188 856 for Chandler Chandler pledged active support for Barkley in November and Barkley predicted a 60 000 to 70 000 majority in his district races also noted Haswell led GOP field in Senate race and Jefferson County Barkley carried seven of nine districts with Louisville and Paducah mentioned as key points

New York August 8 The crate Douglas Corrigan used to fly to Ireland arrived in the United States aboard the U S Lehigh of Oriole line.
