Dewey Lake of Webster 41 is in county jail charged with injuring his wife Ida 37 with a pen knife last night. She received two gashes on the left arm a cut above the ankle and a gash on the palm while trying to defend herself as Lake drank heavily. The couple quarreled after going to bed and Lake allegedly dragged her downstairs before the attack. He evaded state police before surrendering at 10 30 p m. The wife works on a WPA agricultural project at the Taylor county farm. The story continues on page seven.

Parolee Drowns While Evading Police Action
The body of Regis Young a 25 year old Jordan's Creek truck driver paroled last year from a sentence for his father slaying was found in the Elk river at Falling Rock two miles from Clendenin. Police say he jumped into the river last Saturday night when authorities attempted to arrest him on disorderly conduct charges. Coroner C F Sayre ruled accidental drowning. Young was paroled March 30 1938 after a 1935 five year sentence for involuntary manslaughter. His mother Mrs Ida Young had a 15 year sentence on a plea to second degree murder and was freed July 5 of this year.

Priest Critically Shot By Friend In Accident
In Kansas City on August 3 a shooting at an amusement park left Rev George K King 38 critically injured. His friend Rev John J Murphy, while handling a .22 pistol, heard his gun click then discharge as Murphy set his handgun down.
