In Redding California on April 23 1930 Asa Lee Lakey six was missing in Mt Burney wilds. Nearly 400 woodsmen mountaineers and Indians searched aided by an Army observation plane from Motherlfield Sacramento. Veteran trackers followed the boy since Monday and said recovery unlikely due to cold slopes without food or shelter. The boy's mother clung to hope saying she dreamt he would be found alive and well. Yesterday Asa was traced 11 miles from Hat Creek guided by watch fires spanning miles around.

Chadduck Narrow Escape As Car Overturns On Highway

Hary W. Chadduck Jr. had a narrow escape from death when the car he was driving overturned on a highway just across the Winchester Virginia line early Tuesday. He was returning to his Washington home after attending an Easter dance Monday night and left town soon after. He was unhurt except for minor scratches and traveled to Washington in another car.

Unseasonable Cold Grips Northeast With Snow Measurable

Forecasters warn that freezing temperatures and snow will persist as a Canadian high pressure area moves away. Across Upstate New York and New England, towns report zero to single digits, several inches of snow, and records dating back decades. American Dentist Released By Mexican Bandits After Ransom

Dr George Edward Purnell an American dentist kidnapped near Guadalajara was freed outside Guadalajara after paying 400 pesos. He had been the third American kidnapped in a month, following J B Bristow of Texas and Leonard Cassidy of Peabody Massachusetts. Release arranged by Raleigh A Gibeon the American consul and William B Lawton the vice consul.

Rinaldo Claims He Murdered Taylor Director

Los Angeles police arrested Russo Rinaldo on suspicion of murdering William Desmond Taylor on February 1, 1922. The 30 year old accountant reportedly confessed after police questioned him and said he was a friend of a motion picture actress who visited the director that night. He claimed he followed in a taxicab and overheard a quarrel before entering the bungalow.

Fastest Air Mail Service Planned Next Flight to Havana

New York April 28. Colonel Lindbergh will fly tomorrow from Miami in a Pan American mail plane to Havana and then to Cristobal linking North and South America. The voyage is the first stage of a new fast mail service promising a week from New York to Montevideo and Buenos Aires. Columbus Ohio April 22 Warren Preston E Thomas of Ohio penitentiary was summoned to appear again before the board investigating the tragic fire that killed 318 prisoners in six ranges while locked in cells. Attorney General Gilbert Bettman headed the inquiry and said questions would cover emergency plans fire handling equipment and suspected causes as Thomas briefly entered the yard and faced jeers from convicts outside the deputies office.

Three Prisoners Die As Ohio Pen Fire Burned

Columbus April 23 state officials resumed probe into the Ohio penitentiary disaster where 318 prisoners were trapped in two cell blocks. Warden Thomas ordered the blocks untouched to aid origin analysis as guards and prisoners are questioned and a citizen committee is urged to draft an institutional building program to prevent recurrence amidst funeral details for the dead.

Estimate of Charleston Population Near 58 000

A Kanawha County official in Charleston on April 23 estimated the city’s population between 57 000 and 58 000. He said the figures show a gain over the 190 population of 39 000 and expected final figures within a few days.
