Three Buried Alive In Moose River Gold Mine Collapse

Three Toronto men believed buried alive after a cave in at the Moose River gold mine near Moose River. The group inspected the mine at the 150 foot level when the collapse occurred. Named are H. R. Magill, a Toronto lawyer and part owner, Dr. Robertson, a medical practitioner, and a timekeeper. Rescuers thought they may have sought refuge in an underground tunnel overnight.

Addis Ababa April 13. Nine Italian planes flew over the Ethiopian capital causing panic as Emperor Haile Selassie mobilizes 300,000 fresh warriors to the northern front. The squadron appeared from the north and completed a flight over the city then returned, no bombs dropped. Six days earlier Italian pilots attacked the Addis Ababa airfield.

Grand Jury Convenes Here Today With Hughes Facing Indictment

Approximately 40 witnesses were summoned as the April term of Taylor county circuit court opened. Prosecutor James C. Holt said about 15 true bills would be sought including charges of attempted criminal assault sodomy and unlawful cohabitation. Hughes, 37, waived a hearing on attempted rape and faces possible sodomy charges. Hughes has been jailed without bond since the alleged attack on a nine year old girl last Thursday. Other defendants include Lloyd Green awaiting a felonious cutting charge and Jess Wilson on a chicken stealing count. William Pitts, former paramour of Marjorie Hanna, faced a charge of unlawful cohabitation after admitting he lived with her six years outside marriage. Story continues on page three.

Russia plans to train 8000 airship pilots in 1936

Moscow April 13. A V Kosareff secretary general of the Communist Youth League told the congress that 8000 new air pilots must be trained in 1936. He said the league already has more than 1,000,000 members experienced rifle shots. He claimed a secret anti-Soviet military agreement between Germany and Japan and that Poland is in close relation to it. He accused Japan of provoking clashes on Soviet frontiers and warned imperialists would attack if they did not fear the united workers.

Trenton N J April 13 Dr John F Condon known as Jafsie testified he paid 50000 to ransom the Lindbergh baby. Mercer county grand jury foreman Allayne M Freeman telegrammed Condon to appear April 15 in connection with the Wendel murder case. Wendel a disbarred lawyer, in Trenton jail, has been charged with the Lindbergh kidnapping murder.

Doctor Beaten by Father in Farrell Pennsylvania

Dr. William M. Writ, 42, is in serious condition after being beaten by Sam Busco, whose 14 year old daughter died last June from erysipelas. Busco attacked when the doctor would not sign an affidavit admitting knowledge of Mrs Caroline DAngelo treating the girl. Mrs DAngelo faced charges for practicing medicine without a license. Police say Busco denied knowledge of the assault.

Detective's Curiosity Lands Couple in Cells

New York April 13. Mary Shanley Shaw a woman detective grew curious about a toy revolver purchase. John Finegold 31 from Pittsburgh and Stanley Warzynski 25 from Weirton West Virginia were jailed on concealed weapons charges and admitted contemplating a holdup. Warzynski had prior robbery term in West Virginia penitentiary.

Pool Room Pistol Duel Proves Fatal to Negro

In Wheeling on April 13 a stray shot from a pistol duel in a pool room killed William Noel, a 32 year old Black man. Police reported Robert Perry and Percy Brown also fired, with Perry wounded in the leg and Brown showing bullet holes in his coat and trousers.

Court delays decision for two weeks on coal tax case
