A serious auto spill north of Graettinger on Monday evening involved A D Daniels and a son from Perry with another son and five children from Ledger South Dakota. Mr McDonald Goes Home After Tumor Operation
Thomas McDonald returned from St Paul last week and was brought to Estherville for surgery on a neck tumor. The procedure was difficult but apparently successful and he has a good chance of recovery. He spent four months in a St Paul hospital and faced an earlier failed wound. His son Kevin lives in St Paul. The Times is pleased with his progress and optimistic about full recovery.

A smoke filled highway near the old Hutchinson place caused a collision between an auto from G. C. Coolidge and a horse team. One horse was killed after the wagon tongue struck the other horse. Iowa State College expert C E Bartholomew reports a protected new hive design yielding far more honey than standard 10 frame dovetail hives. In tests this year one colony produced 119 lbs extracted honey and 49 lbs comb honey. five hives average about 140 lbs each, versus 27 ordinary hives at about 10 lbs each. Total harvest near 1,000 lbs worth around $100, with further testing planned. The hive stabilizes brood nest at 98 degrees to reduce energy spent on temperature control.
