United Danish State Convention A Big Gathering

Prices Lower At Clay County Fair Next Week

Clay County Fair Association executive committee members, mostly farmers, agreed to reduce prices for this year’s fair. Children thirteen and under will be admitted free daily to boost attendance. Last year 8,000 paid 25 cents and 6,000 did so in 1980, amid a large fall program and planned culvert grading work.

Wallingford Man Succumbs to Heart Failure at Home

Charles Sangster aged 67, a Wallingford farmer, died this morning at his home. Death was sudden and believed to be from a heart attack. He lived on a farm near Wallingford for many years and was well known in Emmet county. Surviving are his widow and a daughter, Mrs Roy Coleman, of Esther ville.

Record Breaking Auction Sale Held Tuesday

John Helvig and Albert Zitterick organized a large auction in the territory Tuesday drawing 300 to 400 bidders. The sale total reached 93 869 with cattle, horses, and hogs sold. cows brought up to 45 dollars, average about 40 dollars per head. Despite era-wide economic strain, bidders expressed renewed optimism and confidence in repaying debts. Corn was 186 and oats 10 cents, reflecting farm hardships but a belief in eventual recovery.

Suggestions For Farmers During Mid-West Holiday

Clay County Fair Opens With Wedding Spectacle

The Clay County Fair at Spencer runs September 20 to 24 with a lavish wedding on September 24. Bride Miss Marjoria Smith and groom Mr Gunnar Osterling wed in a ceremony read by C Roll pastor of the Church of Christ Cleghorn Toya. The spectators, vendors, and a 10,000-strong crowd expected, will witness Ernie Young's Passing Parade of 1982 and a grand night show. The couple, both from Cherokee County families, plan a Chicago honeymoon and return to farm ten miles south of Cleghorn.

Graettinger Visit Highlights Danish Lutheran Delegate

A Danish Lutheran convention in Graettinger featured Peter Clemmensen of Atlantic Iowa, an officer in an eighteen mile railroad operation. Clemmensen, described as general manager, attended to company affairs while previously prospering at Atlantic. He is a former Graettinger youth, with reverend father once serving at South Walnut church.

Ben Reeves Auction Sale Set For September 26

Ben Reeves will hold his annual pulse auction Monday September 26 with a free lunch at noon. The sale features four head of horses eighty six head of cattle twenty five Poland China hogs and various farm machinery. Milkh cows and heifers number forty among the cattle with buyers allowed to pick the milch cows. Reeves notes continued farming and regular purchases of young cattle for feeding and pasture. The auction is backed by Shay Jenawald Grodlani and Reeves with Iowa Trust Savings Bank of Emmetaburg as sponsor. An exhibit for the sale will be announced in next week’s Times.

Mrs C Hansen In Serious Condition After Steam Pressure Cooker Accident

Mrs. C Hansen of Graettinger was severely burned and suffered a broken hip when a steam pressure cooker lid blew off while she was helping preserve tomatoes at her daughter’s home six miles west of Graettinger. She was taken to Coleman hospital Estherville, unable to talk or recognize family, in very serious condition.
