The Graettinger Iowa City Council on September 8 1975 adopted Ordinance No 67 adopting a runoff election method in lieu of a primary for selecting elective municipal officers. The ordinance outlines procedures home rule act provisions severability and repeal clauses and becomes effective after final passage approval and publication.
The Graettinger Municipal Electric Utility in Iowa will hold a public hearing on September 24, 1975, at 7:30 p.m. to ratify and amend a joint agreement with Iowa Public Service Company and others. The plan covers a 0.174 percent stake in a 576 MW steam plant at the George Neal Generating Station near Salix, with related transmission facilities, and allocates financing and life-of-facilities terms. The amendments would transfer about 50 MW to Northwestern Public Service Company and clarify indemnification terms. A proposed form of each amendment and the original agreement are on file with the Clerk of the Board.
Navy Sonar Technician Third Class Alan R. Barkve, son of Mr and Mrs Norman Barkve of Route 2 Emmetsburg Iowa, has returned from the Mediterranean aboard the destroyer USS Barry. The ship will be home ported in Philadelphia for an extensive overhaul after training exercises with U S Sixth Fleet and visits to several European countries.
