Graettinger enjoyed ideal weather for its 29th annual Labor Day festival with an estimated 7 000 attendees across day and night events. A 6 30 p m car park counted 1 000 autos. 2 000 joined the evening program, while a 1 000 attendance at the baseball game were noted. Pete Geil Injured Fire Burn In Railroad Yard Incident
Pete Geil of Estherville son of Mr and Mrs B Geil suffered facial burns Sunday night while firing the switch engine in the railroad yard at Estherville. Slack coal fuel caused a backfire as gas and flame struck him before he could close his eyes. He was taken to the hospital with initial fear of lung injury but his burns were treated and he is recovering. Geil has survived four or five railway accidents.

Auto Wreck Near Wallingford Involving Emmetsburg Crew
An early Tuesday wreck in Wallingford involved a Hudson coach carrying five Emmetsburg youths and an Estherville car.
