New Oats Seed Distribution Planned For Palo Alto County
The County Extension Office has many materials for distributing 411 oats seed this fall for 1954 multiplication. Grown by the Committee for Agricultural Development with Iowa State College in 1952, the seed will be sold in lots of 36 or 48 bushels at 4.00 per bushel to individuals in Ames or Marshalltown. 411 oats is a Santa Fe Clinton cross, similar in color and quality to Reselect Clinton, with heading and ripening days modestly later than Clinton and taller by 2-3 inches. Crown rust absence or light infection favors yields close to Clinton, but heavier rust boosts 411’s yield. Palo Alto County is to supply six growers, with qualification forms available in Emmetsburg Extension Office. Sale today reports Ray Biergen auction held this afternoon as advertised last week.
