Miss Geneva Peterson of Graettinger will represent Palo Alto county in the state spelling contest at Des Moines this week. Miles Peterson leaves for Des Moines Tuesday to be guest of the State Fair association. Peterson previously represented Palo Alto in last spring’s Des Moines Register spelling contest, advancing far in a gruelling marathon, and Graettinger and Palo Alto residents hope for honors again.

Death of Little Alice Josephine Schaney
Mr and Mrs Leo Schaney mourn the death of their infant daughter Alice Josephine who died Saturday morning from brain fever. Funeral was held Sunday afternoon and interment made in Emmetaburg cemetery. The child was nearly a month old and mourners in Graettinger expressed sympathy.

Open Season on Pheasants Planned in Palo Alto County
Deputy Game Warden Moses of Emmetsburg says Palo Alto county will have an open pheasant season this fall. It lasts two weeks on alternate days to limit influx of outsiders. Previously Kossuth held a three consecutive day season, prompting the move.
