Woman of the Ozarks crafts a life of skill and self sufficiency
Violet Hensley of northern Arkansas gains fame for hand carved animals, a covered wagon, and a violin. Her ten children and farm duties shaped precise carvings with lifelike proportions. She learned crafts while helping family chores, delivering babies, and surviving on self sufficiency. Her work, praised at the Ozarks Arts and Crafts Festival, draws orders from Oregon and buyers by color and texture.
