Palo Alto County sheriff Dick Miller described a Monday night or Tuesday morning break in at Farmers Creamery as a punch and peel job. Thieves pried open the safe using a three quarter inch bar and a cutter, stealing about $20. The concrete dust on the door and floor was noted in the investigation.
Thieves pried open the Farmers Creamery safe on Monday night or early Tuesday morning and stole about 20 dollars from cash registers at Mallard. Sheriff Miller linked the break in to other robberies at Schutz grocery and the T. J. Reinder store, both in Mallard, last night. Entry was gained through the north wooden door, while a south cast-steel door was tried. Creamery workers discovered the theft when arriving for work. A long-time firm employee notes this is the third robbery at the Creamery. At about 9 30 p.m. Monday Irvin Dalen surprised three men tampering with his tractor tank in a bean field several tenths of a mile from his home. a car with another person fled, with no license number obtained in the dark.

Weather outlook shows milder and pleasant conditions returning after a weekend cold spell. Temperatures dropped to a season low near 20 degrees early Monday morning, with just over half an inch of rain reported Sunday forenoon.
More than thirty local neighbors gathered at the Petersen farm to harvest about 30 acres of corn using 11 mounted pickers and various equipment. The group, welcomed by the ill Mr. Petersen, worked from 8:45 to 10:45 AM with numerous named volunteers delivering pickers haulers elevators wagons and food service by the shown ladies.
Mrs. Ellen Josephine Sherlock Brown died from injuries in a Sunday auto accident near Graettinger. Funeral services were held at Immaculate Conception Church for the 69 year old, who left eight children and twenty grandchildren. Surviving husband James R. Brown is bed‑ridden with heart trouble. two sisters and multiple siblings also survive. An obituary will follow next week.
The WMF Workers Conference will be held Friday October 28 at Immanuel Lutheran church east of Wallingford. The conference begins at 1 30 p m.
About 25 friends neighbors and relatives gathered at the Mrs Halver Rierson farm Monday morning to pick and crib bed about 45 acres of corn by noon. A large group of men and women donated labor and food for the event.
Merie E. Petersen will hold a complete closing out public auction sale of a full line of good farm machinery and livestock on Monday Nov 7 at the farm four miles south of Graettinger on Highway 17 location four miles south and west side of road. Brown and Bortin t will be auctioneersGraettinger State Bank clerk sale starts at 1 pm. Times appear in next issue.
A public auction of the Richard Peters estate will be held on November 10 at the farm nine and a half miles east of Graettinger. Bortint and Brown act as auctioneers with Graettinger State Bank as clerk. A full line of farm machinery and household goods will be offered. details will appear later.
Boyd Ayres will hold a complete closing out public auction sale of a full line of good farm machinery and livestock on Tuesday November 15. Sale begins at 12 30 at the farm six miles south and one mile east of Graettinger. Bortint and Finn will be auctioneers Graettinger State Bank will clerk details to appear in a later issue.
The Lost Island Ladies Aid will hold a church bazaar on Thursday evening November 3. Auction of bazaar items begins at 8 p.m. Lunch will be served after the sale. The public is invited to attend.
Craettinger school reports Friday night’s football game at Sioux Rapids will start at 7 30 p m instead of 8 p m The Pirates meet the Sioux Rapids Indians in the season’s final game and it is a Corn Belt conference matchup.
The Graettinger High School Junior Class will stage the three act comedy Tattletale on Friday November 11 at 7 00 p m with a cast of 23. The synopsis notes an innocent start as Patty pursues a type.
The Pocahontas REA Coop erative will sponsor a Miracle Show at the Geravttinger Legion hall Tuesday evening Nov. 1 at 7 30. Demonstrations will feature automatic laundry equipment with Audrey Pali directing and Lavice fabrics. Grand prize is a 1956 dryer along with dasr prizes and souvenirs. In other REA news James Mehan won a shallow well pump prize at Emmetsburg meetings. Nick Spear of Wallingford underwent partial amputation of his left hand after a mishap with a corn topping machine last Thursday. neighbors helped Spear farm by harvesting corn.
Fun loving sports fans are promised a field day of hilarious entertainment when the Ralph Godfrey Donkeys from Crescent Oklahoma come to town on Tuesday evening November 8 A big program has been arranged including Donkey Basketball a Hobby Donkey Derby and a trick mule act between quarters to round out an evening of fun for all ages. Sponsor is the Graettinger Band Parents.
Pastor Andrew Staley of Fremont Nebraska will lead a joint Spiritual Emphasis series at St Pauls South Walnut and Lost Island Lutheran Churches. The event runs Sunday October 30 through Tuesday November 1 with services at South Walnut Sunday and Tuesday evenings and Lost Island Monday evening. Staley, active on Rural Life Commission of the National Lutheran Council, will also speak Monday at Lost Island on The Christian Farmer, following a family potluck at 6 p.m. A cordial welcome is extended to area residents, especially men to hear Staley.
Albert Schealler was the sole claimant in the weekly Wednesday drawing at Grachtinger stores. Unclaimed prizes listed include Mrs. Orval Peterson sixty dollars, Mrs. L Ness fifty dollars, and Maurice Jacobson one hundred dollars. next week’s prizes rise to ten fifteen seventy five and one hundred dollars.
Anglers reported limit catches of walleyes at Ingham and High Lakes over the weekend. Bob Prather, John Van de Walle, and Roland Wikert with kin each brought in limits, the 2 to just under 3 pound range noted. Lost Island Lake also yielded strong catches with a 5 pounder and a 4 pounder reported by Albert Suss amid ongoing good fishing.
Last week’s mystery farm belonged to Mr and Mrs Blanchard Jacobson living 1 1/2 miles northeast of Graettinger since 1939. Their 260 acre farm reports 33 Holstein cattle and 126 hogs with corn oats beans and hay. Rosemary died at 31 in 1946 from meningitis. the family attends First Lutheran church.
