Raccoon Hunting Opens Across Iowa Statewide Season

Raccoon hunting begins October 30 with over 30,000 hunters and hounds pursuing the fur bearing animal. The season runs from noon October 30 to midnight January 23 with no bag limits or hour restrictions. In 1975 Iowa hunters took about 300,000 raccoons at an average pelts price of 17.85 dollars. Raccoons favor streams and wooded or brushy areas statewide, chiefly on private land. Hunters should secure landowner permission before entry.

Duck Season Reopens Oct 23 Under Point System

Iowa resumes the split duck hunting season on October 23 at legal sunrise through December 5, with 44 days left. Daily bag and possession limits vary by a point system. up to ten ducks per day, two bag limits allowed, no canvasbacks or redheads on the Mississippi River. Points assign 100 for can be reached totals, several species at 25 10 or 70 points, and cool season runs concurrently with duck season.

The measure passed final reading with Ayes Bonstead Hanson Jensen and Nays none Absent Nissen Brobst.
