Purebred Sires Prove Worth The Cost In Farming
Iowa State College extension service bulletin by Hex Beresford shows purebred sires yield higher returns. Studies from Town State College indicate farmers pay too little for herd sires, harming entire herds. Cattle price data over 20 years in Chicago confirms purebreds fetch about triple native cattle prices, offsetting sire costs. Crossbreeding tests with common scrubs and Poland China pigs reveal clear gains from purebreds under similar feeding. The bulletin outlines improved horses and dairy cattle and sheep, available free to Iowa readers.
