Jerome Rose, fighting editor of the Cherokee Courier, defends himself against slurs by Buchanan and other critics. He prints affidavits denying drunkenness, rails at alleged lies, and vows to publish extra copies to expose opponents as corrupt. The piece highlights abrasive 19th century newspaper rivalries and salty editor rhetoric.
