New Palo Alto Farm Bureau President Elected

At the annual meeting 125 Farm Bureau members elected Henry Depenbusch of Great Oak township president for 1949. C L Underwood Independence township was chosen vice president John Hinder Silver Lake named secretary and Joh Kerber Freedom district treasurer. Don Groves outlined farm policy and the group voted to raise dues from 10 to 15 dollars yearly. A long resolutions list urged tax changes rural funding and stronger national defense. 4 H officers were named for Palo Alto County and Les Rhodes was introduced as the county Farm Bureau field representative to boost membership.

A group of Silver Lake homemakers staged a three act minstrel show to raise money for Cancer Fund and other causes. Rehearsals ran overtime and the final night was set for October 15. The narrator attended with a companion, arriving late and watching from the balcony behind a post, missing much of the performance.

Emmet County lakes closed to trapping

Three areas in Emmet county lakes are closed to trapping according to Conservation Officer Ralph Lempke. The closures cover the Emmet county side of Four Mile Lake, a Mud Lake slough area, and Cunningham slough in the Mud Lake region to protect breeding stock. No permanent duck blinds will be allowed on state owned property.
