A Century Gap Echoes In Attic Reading Room
A nameless narrator finds a World War era reading scene from 1887 through a dusty attic, where a ten year old Elvin recites lessons from George Washington's Rules of Behavior and Thanatopsis. The piece contrasts 19th century schooling with modern times, questioning respect for authority and the fate of Bible readings in schools.
