Obituary of Miss Alice Bratrude, 26, of Graettinger IA, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Bratrude, who died Friday morning at Oakdale sanitarium after months of treatment. Funeral held at home and First Lutheran Church with Rev. M. Mandsager officiating. interment east of Graettinger. Survived by parents, sister Gladys, brothers Melvin and Henry. Alma and Mabel preceded in death. Relatives from Ringsted Cylinder and Fenton attended.

Hamilton Car Damaged as Blind Horse Is Killed
The Wm. Hamilton car driven by Emmett Riley with Mesdames Hamilton and children aboard struck a blind horse on the Times highway east of Graettinger. The windshield and right corner post were damaged but no one injured. The horse was killed instantly.

Graettinger Typing Team Competes At State Meet
The Graettinger typing team did not win first at the Des Moines state contest held Saturday. Members Marie Doyle Blaine Swift and Lucille Gilbaugh represented Graettinger High School with their instructor, as Misa Maurie Doyle a 1994 state champion, did not place first this year. George Frick traveled to Des Moines Friday with the group. Competition was exceptionally keen this year and the girls regarded the experience as a nice honor.

Fred Spies and his nephew Kurt Spies plan a several week trip to Germany and nearby countries in early June. They will sail on the Europa with Mr. and Mrs. George Frick and children, Mrs Frick a daughter of Fred Spies. The Fricks own a new Ford V-8 for the journey. The party will visit relatives in Maine and New York City, and Mr. Spies hopes to share German patterns with readers. Cow Tester Picnic Set for May 27 at Emmetsburg Home
The annual cowtester picnic will be Monday May 27 at Herman Dammann's home one half mile north of Emmetsburg. The judging contest starts at 11:00 a.m. A picnic dinner at noon follows. Boxing Show Heads to Graettinger Next Tuesday Night
A high class boxing program is set for Graettinger’s covered arena on May 21. The eight round main event features Yerne Trickel of Graettinger versus Bob Putney of Waterloo, sharing a card with Goldie O Hara of Fort Dodge and Socko Corlwell of Sioux City. Donald Zitterick a first grader from Graettinger north area was taken ill last night. Dr McManus summoned and rushed him to Coleman hospital Esstherville. The city reports his condition as very serious and it is unclear if the meningitis is contagious. Friends fear for his speedy recovery and send their best wishes to the family.

Merle Grodland Injured By Thrown Ball at Practice
Teacher and coach Merle Grodland of Lone Rock schools was hit in the mouth by a baseball during practice. The ball tore the inside of his lower lip, required stitches, but did not break any teeth. Grodland stood near the pitcher's box when a first baseman threw the ball and he turned at the yell. The injury was painful but not life threatening. Ed Oghar purchases J A Jensen residence in northwest town for about $8,000 and will remain in Graattinger for now.
