Graettinger Band Earns Fifth Straight Division I Rating

Graettinger High School band received its fifth consecutive Division I rating at the state music contest in Burt. Judges praised the band's performance as outstanding, while the choir earned Division II with mixed notes. Directors Warren Erickson and Allen Zevenbergen complimented attendees and highlighted strong rehearsal training.

Roof Garden Opens May 9 With Terry Stafford Show

The Roof Garden Ballroom Arnolds Park Iowa opens its first dance of the season Saturday May 9 with Terry Stafford famed for Suspection backed by Jimmy Peterson and The Chicagoans. Hours are 8 to 12 p.m. admission one dollar fifty. Stars to perform Saturdays in May.

Scholarship Selected for International Lutheran Summer Seminar

Jane Swanson daughter of Mrs Frans Swanson of rural Grachtinger has been chosen for one of seven ILSSS scholarships at the University of British Columbia Vancouver. Four scholars will come from US universities and three from Canadian ones. The course in Sociological Theory will be taught by Dr Percy Cohen of the University of Leicester England. A weekly seminar will be led by Rev Robert Pearson Lutheran Students chaplain at UBC. The program includes worship daily prayer and outings in Vancouver area. Alice Petersen 58 Dies in California Rites Here

Ace Petersen a native of Graettinger aged 58 died in California during surgery. He had been ill three months. Rites pending in South Pasadena with burial planned at St Pauls Lutheran cemetery here. Survived by four brothers Lars Einer Walter Roy and sister Mrs George Argue.

Notice to Dog Owners in Graettinger Prompts Licenses

Graettinger town council and mayor publish a notice urging dog owners to keep pets on property or on a leash. All dogs must have a city license tag. After May 15 dogs running at large will be impounded for three days before disposal. A nominal impoundment fee applies and must be paid before reclaiming the dog.

Immaculate Conception parish members gave Father Vincent Beacom a purse of money for a new Buick. The car was delivered Tuesday. Beacom has been pastor since June 1962. Priest celebrants mark twentieth anniversary in Fort Dodge

Father Vincent Beacom of Immaculate Conception church attended a dinner at the Marian Home in Fort Dodge Monday night honoring seven priests who were ordained in 1944. Gerald Kelly, St. Edmund's School superintendent, hosted the event and many well wishers and fellow priests joined the observance.

Grachtinger High Plans Spring Band and Choir Concert

Graettinger High School to hire Dale G. Backhaus, current junior high principal in the West Lyon district at Inwood, as principal for the 1964 65 year. He is Wayne State graduate, pursuing an M A in school administration at South Dakota University, and has three and five year old children. May Begins With Rain After Wet April in Iowa

Rainfall continues into May with Graettinger recording 0.3 inches Friday 3.05 inches Sunday night 0.4 Monday morning and 1.4 Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Saturday Money Orders At Local Postoffice

Coop Grain Bowling Team Wins League Title at Emmetsburg

The Gesellingsr Coop Grain bowling team won first place in the Thursday night league at the Emmetsburg alleys as league play finished last week. Members include Sam Sjeklocha Walter Tindall Henry Thomas Merle Jansen and Bud Juhl. They bowled the season without a substitute bowler and will receive a trophy at the league banquet next Monday.

Cancer Crusade Opens in Graettinger Campaign

Graettinger begins its annual Cancer Crusade with a May breakfast at the Methodist church where Graettinger Woman's Club members will receive informational packets. Volunteers will canvass the residential area and distribute educational material to families while raising funds for cancer research.
