The blast lifted the tree several inches, created a mushrooming black smoke that turned to white, and required chopping a foot loose before the tree toppled. The stunt showcased the purported wonders of dynamite.

The funeral for A D Ruddy 77 was held Friday at 9 30 am at St Thomas Church Emmetsburg with Rev Father Farrelly officiating. A large crowd attended as pallbearers led the service and relatives from South Dakota Nebraska and Omaha gathered to pay respects. The service was followed by burial at St Johns Cemetery Emmetsburg with Martin Funeral Service in charge.

Mrs. J. E. McDonald of Mason City died Friday night after a long life in the community. A schoolteacher for about 50 years she remained active into old age. She was 72 and her husband, a Mason City physician, survives. Funeral was held early this week and the Times extends sympathy to the family.
