The proposed conservation board in Palo Alto county would oversee conservation and recreation with funds directed locally and approved by the State Conservation commission. Enabling legislation passed in 1236 has led many counties to form boards and express satisfaction. If voters approve June 6, supervisors will appoint five members within 60 days for staggered five year terms.
The article details a proposed county conservation board with five year terms, selecting members by conservation interest who serve as volunteers with no salary. It estimates an annual budget from $9,000 to $35,000 based on levies of one quarter to one mill, funded by current tax valuations. The levy funds would support upgrades to existing outdoor recreation areas and the creation of new parks, with the board supervising current park areas.
