Iowa urged to run voluntary car safety checks in May and June
William Burnett, state safety education director, says about half of Iowa’s cars have safety equipment failures that could contribute to crashes. He urges communities to organize voluntary inspections during May and June, noting similar programs in other states find about 50 percent of inspected cars need immediate repairs. The department aims to reach at least 200 towns with safety check programs.
