Subcommittee Acts On Disaster Loan for Iowa Farmers
The House Agriculture Committee subcommittee unanimously backed legislation by Iowa's Berkley Bedell to extend low interest disaster loan repayment from seven to twenty years retroactive to January 1 1975. The bill would aid farmers hit by the January blizzard and could be used at the secretary's discretion, with a July 1 1976 filing limit for eligible applicants. Bedell also announced open door meetings in Emmetsburg to discuss ag issues and energy proposals.

Iowa Conservation Faces Revenue Loss From Senior Licenses
Fred A. Priewert of the Iowa Conservation Commission warned that proposed legislation to sell hunting and fishing licenses to residents 65 and older at 1.25 dollars or lifetime licenses for six to eight dollars could cut commission income by as much as 140000 dollars annually. The loss would threaten fish and wildlife programs funded entirely by licenses and federal excise taxes, unless costs are shared or funding methods altered. Goose migration also begins as warmer weather spurs spawning in southwest Iowa with over 200000 geese reported.

Geese migration brings large counts to Fremont County bottoms
Blues and snows began arriving March 16 and have spread through the Missouri River flats in Fremont County. White-fronted Canadas mallards and pintails observed with large numbers of geese feeding in corn fields. Commission urges viewing only on hard roads as thawing conditions have left other roads poor. The migration is later than normal due to weather but appears to be peaking in the next week or two. Dock permits required under ICC rules with flotation material restrictions. The ICC meets in Des Moines on Tuesday April 1.
