Economic and defense cuts shape early war budget
The Graettinger Times reports a growing economic bloc in Congress pushing spending restraint. House committees trim nearly 300 million, including scrapping Admiral Byrd's Antarctic Expedition, while naval expansion faces questions over timing and obsolescence. Farm subsidies loom as Senate moves a billion-dollar bill, with compromise likely. Global war pressures drive food rationing and Allied shortages, amid analysts split on likely outcomes.
