Also notes thanks to Earl Ericksons for citrus, Glenn Shaver's post driver device, pests threatening pecan crops, and community club attendance. Includes local notices of new veterinarian Dr Olene Jacobsen, A. G. Barber dairy, school election results, and various local movements and visits.
At Hamburg David Alry recently collected on a straight life insurance policy after observing his 96th birthday. The policy, issued in 1915, paid out as the actuarial tables end that day, marking a rare milestone for a lifetime policyholder.
At Forrest City High School the 1971 coaching staff contributed cheerleaders by becoming fathers this weekend. Coaches Ed Lyons and Norm Jefferson welcomed newborn daughters, marking a memorable family milestone alongside the school’s cheer program.
The county 4 H basketball tournament runs March 23 to 27 at Emmetsburg High School Gym with 18 games. Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce, the high school, and the local office organize it. First night features one girls game and three boys games, with matchups including Emmetsburg vs West Bend and Independence vs Vernon. Subsequent nights add games, semifinals Thursday, and finals Friday along with a boys consolation. Also notes fertilizer ratio basics and substitutions.
Farmers Bureau notes a visit to Albert Larson’s Ayrshire farm where a National Flag picture is displayed.
