Extension economist discusses lamb market and wool outlook
Extension economist Francis Kutish of Iowa State University notes the best market for native lambs tends to come in late spring or early summer with prices generally declining thereafter. He advises creap feeding for early torn lambs to maximize gain and cites wool price expectations near last spring or higher while debating whether producers should hold wool into summer or fall. He warns spring wool mill buying is strongest and a downturn in late 1960 or early 1961 could affect the wool market. Egg price trends this spring should rise above April and June 1959 lows with a seasonal uptick after early summer, and feed grain prices are expected to stay below year-ago levels through mid-1960, with January corn and barley prices only modestly lower and sorghum down about twelve percent.
