A Franklin county board meeting sparked debate as a supervisor set a new economy record by approving a bill for ribbons for a typewriter. The Armstrong Journal notes regional comparisons, quoting critics about gallantry and fiscal restraint, contrasting Emmet and Palo Alto counties with Palo Alto resisting such bills.
Across the United States slates are being banned in schools citing sanitation concerns. Children lose their chalk and sponge pranks as paper tablets replace slates in classrooms. Last year, U.S. retail sales reached about 10 million dollars, equating to roughly 160 million tablets.

Louis Hans, formerly a resident here now in Great Bend Kansas, writes he is prospering and organizing a wholesale buggy company with a paid-up capital of 25000 dollars. While here he had few worldly goods but the change seems to have come and friends are glad to hear he is forging ahead.
J J Mahan recalls a Spirit Lake area pioneer event when eight donkeys were kept for winter and raced at his father’s home. Donkeys varied in speed and threw riders. a couple of youths were briefly injured. Mahan remembers the day and his parents’ role in the original colony.
Notice to voters of Graettinger Iowa election on March 27 1906 asking if the town should erect operate and maintain gas works. Ballots require a Yes or No mark in the appropriate square. City official D W Cammon signed the notice on March 1 1905 as mayor.
The Transportation Committee of the Town Epworth League selected the Rock Island System for a special Omaha to Denver route to the Grand International Epworth League Convention in July.
