Fraudulent scales at Illinois Central Farley yard exposed
Report details a swindle using hardened steel contrivances in weighing cattle at the Illinois Central Farley yard. A test with three steers weighed 3,565 pounds, then after applying the shrinker the same three read 3,370 pounds, a 195 pound shrinkage. Shippers, buyers, and the railroad are tied to the device, with some Farrey buyers allegedly involved. Additional notes mention monkeys in cotton picking experiments and a planned statue for Spinner, plus other varied items and editor anecdotes.
