Noon in February another successful sale was conducted in this city by M. O. Grodland when he sold H. G. Harrison's warehouse and lots south of the feed shed. He has sold six residences and several lots in town and surrounding areas. Two years ago he set a record by selling 166 acres north and east of Graecttinger, the first farm sold at public auction in the region. Though young, Grodland is noted as one of the era's most successful auctioneers.
The Graettinger independent school district held a Monday election with five candidates for two director seats, one for treasurer. Of 166 votes cast 25 were spoiled, 141 valid. Fred Spies 71, Martin Myhre 64, F H Green 41, J C Molison 38, H L Wildey 27. Spies and Myhre elected directors, J B Lambe treasurer with 59 votes. Spies and Myhre praised for candor and progressiveness.
At the annual directors meeting of Farmers' Grain Company the resignation of Jorgen Anderson as manager was accepted and W. L. O'Connor elected to fill the vacancy. Anderson retires in June when his term ends. O'Connor has long served in officiating roles and is deemed highly qualified. The firm anticipates prosperity and a rise in business under new management.
Carl O. Lillevick and Martha FE Olsen, both of Ottosen, married at the bride’s parents’ Ottosen home on Thursday at one o’clock. They settle to housekeeping on the groom’s farm east of town. the groom is praised as industrious and reliable while the bride is described as a promising young woman from Ottosen. The Times offers congratulations.
Estherville businessman F H Graaf owner of the Grand Theatre and confectionery plans a two story opera house. He has purchased rear lots and the building will face north and south with main entrances on Sixth street. The Grand Theatre lobby will become a large decorated lobby with palm trees circular seating and a raised floor. The main exit will funnel crowds through the ice cream parlor.
My Mahan, a well informed local historian, remarks that Spirit Lake massacre anniversary fell on the same Sunday as fifty seven years ago. He is highly knowledgeable on early Palo Alto and Emmet county history and shares insights on those times.
A farewell party was held Friday evening at the home of Mr and Mrs Edward Murp. About thirty guests attended. Cards were played and refreshments served. Mr and Mrs were presented with eight chairs. The surprise event included many attendees.
