A Iowa survey led by Helen Lovell shows nutrition education in towns and rural areas raised diet quality. In fall 1948 more than 700 children were surveyed. a 1949 follow up found 42 percent urban and 45 percent rural children improved. Rural gains included eggs and milk. city gains were strong in breakfasts and most food groups.
A Palo Alto man and an out of state buyer separately purchased farms in Iowa and near Emmetsburg, with cash and hands-off management. The trend signals abundant wealth and scarce safe investments, urging young farmers to study the shift in real estate and finance. A separate note highlights resilient three year old Johnny Fisher of Chariton recovering from past illnesses after a high speed highway accident, and two and half year old Janice Berrens who swallowed a key-ring hook and had it removed in Des Moines hospital.
