Girls basketball scene grows while Mallard hosts large event. Graettinger’s team shows promise as they prep under coach Mrs. Pached. Mtn Lake Tournament near with sixteen teams from across the state.
In this Times issue a quarter page display advertises Wim Williamson Estate sale Monday March 6 at Graettinger five miles west. Sale starts 1 80 prompt, featuring horses cattle Poland China sows farm machinery and miscellaneous items. Grodland Hepp auctioneers J C Jertson clerk. Also Eckley sale March 7 offering 60 broad sows 20 fall and summer open gifts 11 head registered Shorthorn cattle many calves, terms usual. Reeves Kentor auctioneers. J A Spies sale March 4 adjoining Graettinger with large lot of property for a season’s biggest sale.
Notice to the public states there will be no market day sale at Graettinger Sale Yard until Saturday March 18. A strong sale is advertised with items to list with Grodland and Hepp for March 18. L Larsen of Graettinger announces candidacy for supervisor, subject to Republican primaries. Larsen, a Palo Alto County resident most of his life, is a farmer, former school board member, and recently bought a small local place.
The Grodland sale yards hosted a Saturday sale that drew a large crowd and nearly three thousand dollars in sales. Organizer Mr Grodland, a 12 year veteran, credits local support and being the region’s sole owner of two sale yards for the success of the market.
A Thursday Legion party at the Hawkeye theatre drew about five hundred attendees for a night of dancing and music by Chuck's orchestra of Bancroft. John Kathman conducted a guessing contest Saturday with a market style pony and hog prize. Mother in Dead jade noted, with Lutheran Church notice following.
Albert Lippert son of Mr and Mrs John Lippert of near Wallingford died Wednesday after a three week illness that began with flu complications. Funeral services were held at home and Estherville Lutheran church with interment in Oak Hill. Pallbearers included Thompson Nelson Engart Christensen Burg Amdahl and Spies. He was born November 25 1897 at Wallingford and spent his life on his father farm except two winters at Ames college. He leaves his parents and four sisters Amelia Augusta Pauline Kathryn.
Members of the Sunshine Club east of town hosted an oyster supper at Fred Masters home on the 14th, noted in last week’s Times. On the 19th a farewell for Mr. and Mrs. Marl Moraine drew a large crowd, who presented a remembrance. Another farewell for Mr. and Mrs. Oddson preceded their move, with a large gathering enjoying the social event.
A fragmentary report notes considerable damage at a Bam school caused by offenders. It mentions a stolen phonograph and pictures, with references to a teacher Miss Petersen and others, though details are unclear.

James W. Eastland & Co records show Graettinger Iowa hog salesmen moved 2 001 650 pounds of hogs in 1921. D E McCarty led shipments for Eastland, with total association receipts just over 202 000 dollars. The Graettinger Live Stock Association is among the state’s largest.
Jacob Brekke announces his candidacy for the office of county supervisor in this district subject to the Republican primaries in June. Brekke has farmed in the locality for many years, is retired, resides in Graettinger, and is described as well qualified with many friends in the district. He is the fourth Republican candidate for supervisor.
The Founders reception, the annual Parent Teacher event, was held at the home of Mr and Mrs A J Johnson on Tuesday evening with very large attendance. A well prepared program was rendered followed by refreshments and a social time. The Johnsons are hospitable entertainers with a fine modern spacious home able to accommodate large gatherings.
Aspirants for the supervisor office include Berdin a respected farmer and well-liked district figure. The field features Mears Rierdon Larsen and Brekke as rivals, promising an engaging primary. Voting is scheduled for March 3 at Box dial Hardy.
The Palo Alto Co Holstein Bull Association announces full operation to inform and recruit. Members pay capital stock up to 10 dollars per cow for service for 8 to 10 years, with annual sinking funds and a small maintenance fee. Locations include Olaf Nelsons farm near Ruthven Cascar Suss farm Lost Island Two O C Olsen south Walnut Philip E Johnson Gattinger In dependence Two. Join by applying to Spies Seely treasurer for details and savings program certificates.
Graettinger boys lost to Ruthven 29 to 19 despite strong effort. Star center Harrington played through toe surgery and protective gear, while Martha Nelson starred for the Graettinger girls as they won 14 to 10. Immense Graettinger crowd cheered. both teams showed good ball and sportsmanship.
The Methodist Church announces Sunday Schedule including Sunday School at 10:00 morning worship and an evening sermon in a series on Weans Facts. Junior League meets at 4:00 with Epworth League gathering led by Teddy Ethel Smith. A Bible study will be held at Mrs. J Th Gammon's with lesson from Philippians. A social house event will occur in March under Ladies Aid.
