The note says we are traveling at 55 mph toward James Sr. on a Florida visit for ten days of sun. The writer predicts next week’s issue will be by sister Diane and reports Bonstead family painting on Main Street, replacing an empty lot with a new building.
An old landmark named the High Lake Post Office stands abandoned near Wallingford as the Alvin John sons plan to move into a new home across the road. Johnny Johnson and his granddaughter Jean Johnson pose before the building, hoping the original section can be restored for posterity rather than being torn down this summer unless a preservation group intervenes.
District No 6 above the door marks the former High Lake Schoolhouse site where furniture and machines decay. A new A frame home rises on the site overlooking High Lake while memories of a past post office linger in the air about mail routes and forgotten residents.
