Nelson Funeral Held Sunday Veterans honor in Graettinger

The funeral for Private John Nelson, killed in France, was held Sunday with full military honors. His brothers and comrades carried his casket from residence to church and then to South Walch Churchyard for burial amid sprays of floral tribute and a volley of rifles. Nelson enlisted in 1917, served with Co F 360th Infantry ultimately in France, and died August 8 1918 during the Marne campaign. Born Palo Alto in 1886 he grew up in this community and left a lasting legacy of thrift and courage. The Times extends sympathy to his father and siblings.

Graettinger Chautauqua July 7 to 11 planned

The Graettinger Chautauqua runs July 7 through 11 with five days of afternoon and evening entertainments priced at $1.95 for adults and $1.10 for children including war tax. Local manager A J Johnson says the program will be of high order and lists ticket outlets and guarantors across Graettinger.

Gold Found on Herke and Anderson Farms Area

Gold discovered on A G Herke farm south of Grasttinger with assay of 14.06 dollars per ton showing a trace of silver. Samples from nearby Anderson farm and Jorgen Andersen also tested. Rock Island gravel finds reported up to 10 dollars per ton. Local investors and engineers expected to study extraction viability.

Frank Kizer Dies in Gilmore City at 89

Frank Kizer brother of John W. Kiser of this city passed away at Ei Kizer’s home in Gilmore City on Sunday June 12. He was 89 and had been in ill health for years, suffering from anemia. He lived with John Kizer in this city for five or six years, went to Rochester for treatment about a year ago, then stayed with his brother in Gilmore City. He was upright and honorable, with many friends in this city who regret his death. The Times extends sympathy to the brothers and other relatives.
