A five day Chautauqua in Graettinger July 3 to 7 with Midland Chautauqua Co presenting speakers Dean Shannon H W Lars Martha Trimble. The program features Peg o My Heart, The Company Exquisite, Zellner the artist, Ensemble Quartette led by E Henry Boyd, Marimbaphone singers and Virginia Jubilee singers. July 5 includes the Cen tre Liz stinging orchestra from the college.

Mr and Mrs Thoresen Begin Three Month Trip Abroad

Mr and Mrs Carl Thoresen left by auto Wednesday of last week on an extended visit through the west. Their destination is Oregon with plans to spend three months on the way. They carry a camping outfit and will stop at inviting places, with time in St Paul and various points in the Dakotas. Local friends wish them a pleasant trip.

Kenneth Pierson Injured By Toy Gun Accident

Kenneth Pierson son of Mr and Mrs GC K Pierson sustained a painful hand injury Saturday when a toy cup gun discharged a cartridge he had placed in it. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment and anti tetanus serum to prevent lockjaw. The report noted steady recovery and good progress. The piece also notes the Palo Alto County Farm Bureau annual picnic drawing 6000 attendees with a larger turnout than previous years.

Palo Alto County Mecece Wool Growers vote to continue the wool pool. On June 27 and 28 the Fleece Wool Growers association of Palo Alto county will weigh and mark wool for entry into the 1923 pool. Car to be spotted near the depot. Wool pool has historically boosted grower earnings across Iowa through competition and higher prices.

Vaccination School Permits Explained by Dr Stouder

Dr Stouder outlines procedures for securing vaccination school permits under a state act. Ten hog owner applicants, $1 per person, $20 guarantee sent to the state. exam fee $3 in advance. If guaranteed applicants all pass, funds refunded to nonrefundable leads. otherwise funds stay with the state. Iowa State College animal husbandry department reports at the duwa Experiment Station that grinding corn to improve palatability does not offset the added cost. The findings emphasize that removing corn from fattening rations is not economical, especially when hogs follow the feedow.

Thieves Break Into Depot and Store in Huntington

Last Monday night thieves entered the Huntington depot and the store, attempting to enter the pool hall without success. They took a doll, small change, and about $25 from the depot. An ax used to open the cash register was found at the store. No other items were disturbed and no clues were found to identify the culprits.

The poultry department of Iowa State College reports dried buttermilk can replace tankage in a mash for laying hens. Substituting 80 pounds of buttermilk for every 100 pounds of tankage yields satisfactory egg production.

Graettinger Wins Opening County League Game

Graettinger defeated Ruthven 10 to 5 in the county league opener played Thursday afternoon in this city. Five runs in the first inning gave Graettinger the early lead, with only six hits for the team while Ruthven had one off Paulvents delivery. Teuthven’s lone tally came on a pass amid errors in the fifth. Graettinger’s lineup included Paulsen, Elsenbust, Starkey, Horswell, Gammon, Reidy, Johnson, Wrickson, and Donlon. The season features a ten game series against Palo Alto county teams with games each Thursday and business hours closing in the host towns. Admission 25 cents men, 10 cents ladies. under twelve admitted free. Farm Bureau Pig Club enrollment and pig counts rising

Farm Bureau reports that boys and girls in the Pure Bred Gilt and Market Club are selecting pigs and starting the club work. Enrollment runs this month with a cutoff of July 1, weighing certificates issued after filings.
