Monkey slide at Glen Canyon Dam thrills workers
Wayne Osher of Phoenix operates the so called monkey slide at Glen Canyon Dam on the Colorado River, an open air elevator that drops workers 700 feet to the diversion tunnel bench. The device is part of Mountain States Construction Co and Bureau of Reclamation work on a 421 million dollar project.

Lived in Iowa until 1916 then moved to Irving and Willmar areas. longtime Green Lake Lutheran member.

Hatchery Generator Saves Chick Rearing During Storm
Three years after buying an auxiliary electricity generator at Dysart hatchery, a severe electrical storm cut power. The emergency unit activated, preserving the lives of many chicks. About 23,000 chicks were born the next morning.

State of Iowa Palo Alto County met in regular adjourned session on May 22 1957 with all members present. A. P. Rickless presided. Eight bids were opened for fuel contracts covering gasoline diesel fuel and furnace oil for June 1 1957 to May 31 1958. The board awarded to Farolw Oil Co with gasoline 0.038 below posted tank wagon price diesel 0.034 below posted price and furnace oil 0.034 below posted price. Certified checks to unsuccessful bidders to be returned. A non residence notice to Mrs Burgea was authorized. The board adjourned to June 3 1957.
