The Gracttinger Municipal Light plant invites open house to view improvements. Indiana visitors Fred and Marian Harrison plan another Graettinger visit, recalling WW2 days.

Centennial tale of Frank James visit to Palo Alto county

A 87 year old recalls a 1870s stop at P. L. Duhn’s farm five miles south of Graettinger when Frank James and a Cole brother traded muskrat hides for 13 cents a piece. They paid with a $100 bill and gold and silver, dined, and rode on toward Northfield, Minnesota, later linked to the famous bank raid.

Woman badly burned as nylon nightgown catches fire

Mrs. Inez Lonergan of Whitte more suffered severe burns when a cigarette ignited her nylon nightgown. She was not severely burned elsewhere in the incident and received treatment.

Golden 100 Award Recipients at Local Library

The Jocal Public Library awarded the first Golden 100 Award to Ann Elizabeth Westfall and the second to Janis Louise Witt for borrowing 100 books. The habit yields lifelong rewards as they already read hundreds of books, with 30 loans earning Honor Roll, 60 loans Silver Club, and 100 loans a Golden Award.
