Iowa Adopts New Point System To Start Today
Iowa unveils a new driving record system effective today. Each moving violation adds one point to a driver’s record, with three points in 12 months triggering a hearing before a highway patrol officer. The officer may dismiss action, place the motorist on probation, or recommend license suspension, with a 30 day suspension if approved. After suspension, points are wiped and a 12 month no-violation period can offset the prior year’s points.
