Shipbuilding Aids British Vessels Through Century
The record notes delayed launchings of ships at Woolwich and Deptford from 1822 to 1880. A four gun ship named Boscower began at Woolwich in 1822 but never launched. The Worcester started at Deptford in 1831, finished in 1843, while Royal Sovereign projects faced repeated renamings and delays, including Royal Frederick, Frederick William, and finally a 1880 screw ship. The second Royal Sovereign began in 1844. the Admiralty canceled in 1847, then resumed, with completion in 1857.
