Double Wedding in Harrington Family in Newton Iowa

E W Griggs Busy Grandfather Visits Grandson

E W Griggs visited Sunday en route to his son Bert Griggs’s home west of town to meet his new grandson born last week. A daughter was born to Mr and Mrs Harry Brown of the Osgood neighborhood on Saturday. Mrs Brown is Griggs’s daughter. Months ago another grandchild arrived at the home of his other daughter near Emmetsburg. The Times extends hearty congratulations to the families and the grandfather.

Michael Crowley Buried Tuesday

Michael Crowley of Emmetsburg long a Graettinger resident died at his home Saturday. The funeral was held Tuesday with many Graettinger attendees. He was a pioneer Palo Alto County citizen, and his death brought sorrow to his longtime friends.

Good Yield Of Osta This Year From Oats

Oats yield 40 bushels per acre and more this year. Bert Masters threshed 800 bushels from 12 acres, about 63 bushels per acre. Machine measurement and a 7 to 9 ratio with weight may indicate higher overall yields.

Death of E. E. Green Shocks Graettinger Community

E. E. Green, long time manager of the Community Service Station in Graettinger, died suddenly Tuesday morning at 2:39 from heart trouble after recent health issues. Funeral services were held at 9:50 a.m. at his home and 1:16 p.m. at the church. remains interred in Rolfe. He was born May 7, 1804 in Wayne, Wisconsin, 61 years old, married Jennie Gray in 1891 and leaves seven children, three brothers, and several grandchildren. active in I.O.O.F and Woodman lodges. his death is mourned by the community.

Carnahan Died at Estherville in Aged 88 Years

Obituary notes M Carnahan of Estherville aged 88 longtime Palo Alto County resident died after a long illness. Born August 26 1859 in Reasoner Iowa he married Jennie McKensie then Eugenia May Schagle y, leaving two surviving children Mrs Ray Kennedy and Merril Carnahan. Wheat Crop Poor In Kansas

GC McAllister reports to Lorraine Kansas that the threshing season is nearly over with a light wheat crop averaging about 10 bushels per acre and price around 1.48. Oats are good at 50 cents per bushel, corn looks fine, and a goat rain saved the corn. He plans to move to Redfield South Dakota for work as heat and drought persist in the region.

Fire at Swanson Farm Place Weekend Blaze Destroys Barn

Fire of unknown origin was found at the Franz Swanson farm shortly after 1:30 Sunday morning. The blaze consumed the separator house, cribs, machine shed, and damaged the barn and granary filled with last year’s grain. Watch dogs alerted Mr Swanson allowing him to summon aid and save the landlord Louis Christian Sen from greater losses.

North Dakota Threshing Season Promises Long Hours

John Clemenson shipped a separator to North Dakota last week, the machine overhauled with new parts. He and W. C. Foster visited the state and praised the wheat crop as the best in history, signaling a lengthy threshing season.

July Frost Report Across Iowa Fields

A rare frost occurred on the night of July 27 in this Iowa region. Early risers observed a gray frost touching tender vegetation and in some spots corn fields. The occurrence adds to a year with frost in every month so far.

Taking Radium Treatments For Cancer Of The Lip

J T Michaels who went to Iowa City for treatment for cancer of the lip is taking radium treatments. Due to his advanced age surgeons would not operate. The radium treatment is usually successful and Mr Michaels has hope of complete recovery. J G Amdahl visited his father from Estherville Saturday.
