College to Navy: Grigsby Career and War Era Notes
A portrait of Grigsby’s long career from a 1918 era student with a love for Irene Flanigan to teacher, then superintendent in Iowa towns. He later served Des Moines schools, helped develop special classes for disabled students, and joined the U.S. Office of Education in 1929, advancing to special assistant during wartime hours. The feature notes his outdoor hobbies, growing bifocals, and three daughters in New York and Virginia. It also mentions the Navy’s testing of human tolerance for accelerated takeoffs and arrested landings and a field drill at the San Francisco Naval Shipyard.
