Bullhead fishing was good last weekend at Ingham Lake with about 145 cuting size bullheads caught. The catch was made by several fishermen led by Craig and Stanley, pictured together along the shoreline.
Plans for a big Free Watermelon Day in Graettinger next Friday July 20 invite all to main street at 1 30 p m. Graettinger Chamber of Commerce sponsors the event with free watermelon and shopping bargains from local merchants. Details to follow in next week times.
Tournament manager Leland Stiles announced that the tennis and horseshoe events entry deadline is extended to Friday and more entries are sought in men's singles, open doubles, and horseshoes. Entries may be made at Hammerbong Drug with pairings posted there. elimination rounds are underway this week in Graettinger.
The Graettinger band will present the season’s final summer concert next Wednesday at Fahnestock Park. Don Perrine, the band instructor, reports strong attendance at rehearsals and concerts and says audiences have responded well to the weekly performances.
Local summer recreation swimming program extended through August 5. Officials report an average of 6580 youngsters attend Tuesday and Thursday lessons and Friday swim sessions weekly.
Richard Haisman claimed a $25 prize in a Saturday night drawing. A second $25 prize will be offered by participating Graettinger stores in the nine o'clock drawing. Local merchants reported another large Saturday crowd in Graettinger. The issue prints the Gratinger Community School District quarterly and annual financial reports on page six as legal publications.
A Hindu by birth and training converted to Christ in 1949, A. Jothiratnam (Jothi) will be guest speaker at Grace Baptist Church Gracttinger on July 24 at 7 30 p.m. Jothi came to the United States in 1958 leaving behind the homeland and joining a new faith community.
The Walnut Homemakers' Band will hold a bake sale and serve lunches at the Weinholzer building Saturday July 23 from 1 30 to 9 p m Proceeds will fund the band's state fair trip appearance.

Rivercraft Corp of Emmetsburg leased the shop space at the QClaude Hansen site and moved equipment in this week. Led by Bob Brereton and Lee Stanton, the firm will begin small scale houseboat manufacture aimed at Mississippi and Missouri rivers and large Minnesota lakes. A test model was built last year and an improved version will be displayed at a fall Chicago show as production plans grow from one unit at a time to higher output pending market demand. Initial crew will be one or two trained workers with potential for more hires if plans advance.
The town of Grachtinger releases its proposed budget for 1960, showing a millage increase of 2.99 over last year to fund town hall addition, new library, and bond interest. The town council meets at city hall on Monday evening August 1, where taxpayers may respond. Other expenses are expected to stay near prior levels.
Jorgen Andersen 81 longtime Graettinger resident died after a long illness at home. He had been hospitalized and recently confined by heart ailment. Services will be at Graettinger Lutheran church with Rev. G. T. Fjalstul officiating, burial in River View Cemetery, Martin Funeral Home in charge. Survived by wife Mary, daughter Marie Reeves, son Lyle Andersen, seven grandchildren, a brother and several Denmark relatives. Previously active in farming, local boards, and church work, he helped found Ingham Lake Bible Camp and served as cemetery custodian. He was born in Denmark July 18, 1878 and came to the United States in 1900.
The North Iowa Invitational Midget tournament final is set for tonight at Evergreen Park at 8 p m after two rain postponements. Bancroft defeated Ayrshire 30 0 in the semifinal with strong hitting and solid battery work. Trophies provided by the G i muetlinger Legion post.
Ray Wikert, a farmer east of Graettinger, reports starting oats combining last Saturday. The first 200 bushels weighed out at 38 pounds per bushel. The excellent quality oats are yielding well, according to Mr. Wikert. Graettinger received a quarter of tale Sunday evening.
The Gracttinger Chamber of Commerce announces its annual membership drive now in progress with seven teams assigned to contact town members and business firms for dues. Alan Tierstort, president, announced the drive and appointed Lloyd Petersen secretary, succeeding Karl Lohi. Officials urge local businessmen and residents to participate to support chamber efforts promoting town welfare.
Graettinger shuts out Emmetsburg 5 to 0 in the Ruthven area sectional final. Pirates score in the first, third, and fourth innings behind Marvin Egeland and Larry Bachke on the mound with solid hitting from Mulhan Norris Gjerde and Cornelius. Emmetsburg stranded runners as Hauenstein and Hall paired for the Commodores.
The annual ASC community elections held July 4 across all townships of Paulo Adte county report newly elected chairs and vice chairs who will serve as delegates to the county ASC convention in Emmetsburg on July 30. The convention will pick a county ASC chairman and officers for one-year terms starting August 1, with detailed lists by township including Vernon Walnut Exmetsburg Lost Island.
The Pirates saw their win streak end at the state district Nashall meet in Algona last night. Manly High beat them 124 to 0, taking advantage of Pirate errors to score heavily while Cor tellus, R. Baedke, Egeland and L. Baedke provided the Pirates with a weak offensive showing.
Mrs Clarisoa Savangon found a strange fruiting structure on an elderberry branch at her farm. Iowa State University plant disease clinic identified it as Puccinia Bolleyana rust, not spreading on elderberry and not serious, with the branch shown downtown to help others identify similar cases.
