Bullhead fishing catches at Ingham Lake weekend

Bullhead fishing was good last weekend at Ingham Lake with about 145 cuting size bullheads caught. The catch was made by several fishermen led by Craig and Stanley, pictured together along the shoreline.

Free Watermelon Day In Graettinger Planned

Plans for a big Free Watermelon Day in Graettinger next Friday July 20 invite all to main street at 1 30 p m. Graettinger Chamber of Commerce sponsors the event with free watermelon and shopping bargains from local merchants. Details to follow in next week times.

Tennis Tourney Final Play Slated Monday And Tuesday

Tournament manager Leland Stiles announced that the tennis and horseshoe events entry deadline is extended to Friday and more entries are sought in men's singles, open doubles, and horseshoes. Graettinger Band to Play Final Summer Concert

The Graettinger band will present the season’s final summer concert next Wednesday at Fahnestock Park. Don Perrine, the band instructor, reports strong attendance at rehearsals and concerts and says audiences have responded well to the weekly performances.

Swimming Program Extended Through August 5

Local summer recreation swimming program extended through August 5. Officials report an average of 6580 youngsters attend Tuesday and Thursday lessons and Friday swim sessions weekly.

Richard Haisman Wins $25 Prize At Gractinger Event

Richard Haisman claimed a $25 prize in a Saturday night drawing. A second $25 prize will be offered by participating Graettinger stores in the nine o'clock drawing. Local merchants reported another large Saturday crowd in Graettinger. Rivercraft Corp Leases Shop for Houseboat Start

Rivercraft Corp of Emmetsburg leased the shop space at the QClaude Hansen site and moved equipment in this week. Led by Bob Brereton and Lee Stanton, the firm will begin small scale houseboat manufacture aimed at Mississippi and Missouri rivers and large Minnesota lakes. A test model was built last year and an improved version will be displayed at a fall Chicago show as production plans grow from one unit at a time to higher output pending market demand. Initial crew will be one or two trained workers with potential for more hires if plans advance.

Town budget published this week with levy up three mills

The town of Grachtinger releases its proposed budget for 1960, showing a millage increase of 2.99 over last year to fund town hall addition, new library, and bond interest. The town council meets at city hall on Monday evening August 1, where taxpayers may respond. Other expenses are expected to stay near prior levels.

Rites Today for Longtime Resident Jorgen Andersen 81

Jorgen Andersen 81 longtime Graettinger resident died after a long illness at home. He had been hospitalized and recently confined by heart ailment. Services will be at Graettinger Lutheran church with Rev. G. T. Fjalstul officiating, burial in River View Cemetery, Martin Funeral Home in charge. Survived by wife Mary, daughter Marie Reeves, son Lyle Andersen, seven grandchildren, a brother and several Denmark relatives. Previously active in farming, local boards, and church work, he helped found Ingham Lake Bible Camp and served as cemetery custodian. He was born in Denmark July 18, 1878 and came to the United States in 1900.

Reports of good oats crops in early combining

Ray Wikert, a farmer east of Graettinger, reports starting oats combining last Saturday. The first 200 bushels weighed out at 38 pounds per bushel. The excellent quality oats are yielding well, according to Mr. Wikert. Graettinger received a quarter of tale Sunday evening.

Graettinger shuts out Emmetsburg 5 to 0 in the Ruthven area sectional final. Pirates score in the first, third, and fourth innings behind Marvin Egeland and Larry Bachke on the mound with solid hitting from Mulhan Norris Gjerde and Cornelius. Emmetsburg stranded runners as Hauenstein and Hall paired for the Commodores.

Rare Rust Disease Onirs On Elderberry Bush

Mrs Clarisoa Savangon found a strange fruiting structure on an elderberry branch at her farm. Iowa State University plant disease clinic identified it as Puccinia Bolleyana rust, not spreading on elderberry and not serious, with the branch shown downtown to help others identify similar cases.
